Single ovens
Single ovens have one large cooking capacity with 64 litres as standard, although they can run as large as 115L. Standard ovens come with a grill, conventional oven and fan functions while premium models can include special cook modes and self-cleaning options. Compact ovens are smaller and are around the same size as a built in microwave oven at around 45cm high. They're always electric and are a good option for smaller kitchens.
Double ovens
Need more space for your ever-growing family? Look no further than a double oven with two generous cavities. Main oven capacities range from around 50-75L while the smaller top ovens have 35-60L capacities. Like single ovens, they can be built under the counter or built-in at eye level.
Cookers & range cookers
Big, hearty and traditional, range cookers and normal cookers are the freestanding juggernauts of cooking appliances. They usually come in a few standard widths that all manufacturers stick to: cookers 50, 55, 60cm and ranges 90,100,110cm; but make sure to measure for that perfect fit. Electric, gas or dual fuel, ranges can have as many as four oven cavities and seven burners on its stove or hob. Due to their size, you may need to check that you have an adequate power source - most will require at least a 32 amp outlet.

How much does it cost to run ?
Electric ovens and cookers use fewer units of energy than gas, however, gas models will still be cheaper to run, as they cost less per unit of energy than electric models. You should also factor in the size of the appliance when considering cost effectiveness, with a larger cavity naturally costing more to use than a smaller one. Electric ovens are still more popular because they come with loads of cooking features.
FAQ
Should I buy a freestanding or built-in model?
This depends on what you’re after. Freestanding cookers are a great overall package with oven space and a hob on top. They also fit into an existing gap in your kitchen and are more flexible if you plan on moving house in the future. Built-in ovens seamlessly integrate into your kitchen units for a sleek modern finish.
What do energy efficiency ratings mean?
Energy ratings for cookers and ovens are a simple way of understanding how energy efficient an appliance is. The scale ranges from G being the least energy efficient, to A which is the most efficient rating.
Which is best, single or dual fuel?
There’s no right answer. If you’re happy with a cooker being powered by just electric or gas, then single will work perfectly. But if you want the flexibility of both, then go for dual fuel.
How do I find out about the amp rating?
You can easily find a product’s amp rating in the specifications section on the product page.
What’s the difference between built-in and built-under ovens?
A built-in oven is placed in a kitchen cabinet at eye level, while a built under oven is placed under your kitchen counter.
What is the Hot Zone?
The hot zone is the area directly above your cooker or hob. This is the space that gets hot when you cook on your hob. We recommend leaving at least 75cm of space between your hob and the cooker hood to protect your appliances, fixtures and fittings. Also, this area needs to be free from any flammable items such as wood, wallpaper, plug sockets, wiring or an overhanding boiler.
What is the difference between a conventional and convection oven?
A conventional oven uses a heating element at the top and bottom to cook your food. This method can result in hot spots, meaning you can cook foods at different temperatures at the same time. A convection oven uses the same top and bottom elements; however, it also uses a fan to spread the heat evenly and quickly for fast, balanced cooking.
What is a multifunctional oven?
A multifunctional oven comes with multiple different cooking methods, including classic conventional cooking, fan cooking, grill and fan grilling. The amount of functions will vary between manufacturers, but most ovens will have the above functions as standard.
What is a steam oven?
Steam ovens use steam to cook your food, giving you beautiful results. They usually have some type of water tank or reservoir that you fill up, which turns the water into steam. Steam cooking retains the moisture in your food, meaning it keeps all of its mouth-watering flavour and healthy goodness.
What is a combi oven?
Combination microwaves offer more cooking flexibility than a basic microwave. They combine microwave energy, a grill and convection heating functions so they can heat, roast, crisp and brown in the same way as a conventional oven.
